TENS is the abbreviation for transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation and is used in the treatment of pain. TENS devices transmit electrical stimuli through the skin to the nervous system. This is intended to reduce the transmission of pain to the brain and stimulate the production of the body's own pain-relieving hormone, endorphin.
Since endometriosis is associated with severe pain in most people, TENS is used as complementary therapy and, according to many sufferers, provides some relief from abdominal pain.
A study demonstrated significant pain reduction in women with deep infiltrating endometriosis (see link in articles).
On the market are now numerous devices to buy. Therefore, it is best to read testimonials from other Endo-fighters about which model they recommend specifically for the abdomen and/or talk to your gynecologist about the model to buy or a prescription.
